It’s that time of the year again, where head’s are shaved, hair is dyed and money is raised for the Leukaemia Foundation. The Leukaemia Foundation is an organisation which funds research and free services to support people with leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and other related blood disorders. The aim of the World’s Greatest Shave is not only to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation, but also to raise awareness about the things you can do to reduce your risk.
There are a few simple steps that you can take to reduce your cancer risk:
- Quit smoking
- Be SunSmart
- Be active
Get checked for :
- lumps, sores or ulcers that don’t heal
- coughs that don’t go away or show blood
- unexplained weight loss
- moles that have changed shape, colour or ooze
Anyone can be affected by cancer, but in Australia one third of cancer deaths are caused by preventable risk factors. To those of you who were here last year, you’ll remember the variety of dyed hair and various styles of shaved heads which were both extremely amusing and extremely successful – they managed to raise over $1000!
This year we’re hoping to do even better. On Friday the 13th of March, we want everyone to do something funky with their hair to raise awareness. Create a funky hair do, wear a funny hat…
Come to the courtyard at 7.30 pm, where there will be hair chalk and temporary hair dye and spray, and come watch and support those shaving their head.
Remember to post a picture of your new do to Facebook when you’re done!

UPDATE:
World’s Greatest Shave was a huge success! With 13 participants, we managed to raise over $300 for the Leukaemia Foundation. There was a range of multicoloured hair, shaved heads, and one brave person who decided to wax and the team is extremely thankful for all who donated.
